Artist: Klara Gauerke (DE)

Klara Gauerke (b.1987, Hamburg DE) is an artist from Germany who studied arts in Hamburg and Offenbach. In her works, she explores the perception of body and space. Mostly through drawing, she expresses emotional and sensory feelings while combining them with elements from the outer world like landscapes and plants. The form vocabulary often comes from drawing simultaneously with both hands while focusing on emotions and her body perception. She is also fascinated by everything that moves between opposites like up and down, thin and tall, high and low etc. as a primary condition for spatial anchoring. In this context the image of the horizon has a symbolic meaning to her and together with the natural symmetry of the human body there are often geometrical shapes in her artistic works. Within all works you can find a longing for a clear and open-minded atmosphere. The elements shift between different attributions which can lead to  questions but also give space to let them be as they are on the paper and its own contemplative appearance.  “I like when one can look at things just as they appear and focus on the perception of it. Especially in nature i experience this feeling. Society tend to judge and classificate. In my works I try to create a space which transports a sense of freedom and sensitivity.“
