Cloud Vigil

Albert Rendle. B. 1997. Albert Rendle’s paintings are characterised by a bold, restricted colour palette, using subjects that have been stripped back to their basic form. Each work contains the components of a memory without being one. Landscapes feel familiar, faceless crowds feel detached, their form observed without recognition, suns setting and clouds moving by. The organic imagery becomes a signal of safety to a primal human part of us, while simultaneously keeping the viewer one step back, and within a sense of unease. As with the formation of a cloud, the process of creation is open to any outcome, a raw edge being guided by intuition and emotions, filtering information as one would whilst taking a stroll. The mind fills in the gaps, creating its own associations through symbols and silhouettes.
