Artist: Béchir Boussandel (FR)

Béchir Boussandel (b. 1984). Lives and works between Paris (France) and Tunis (Tunisia).

A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Dunkerque art school in France, Béchir Boussandel began his artistic career with installations before turning to painting. Exploring the multiple strata of a moving painting, it is first and foremost a questioning of perspective that finds expression in his canvases. Upsetting the conventional relationship with the horizon, the artist deploys a bird's-eye view on surfaces whose materiality reveals both an earthly and astral aspect. From these magmatic depths emerge isolated elements that, without ever meeting, engage in a frontal dialogue across the works. Free from any space-time anchorage, these singular miniatures intrigue and signify both personal reminiscences and symbolic transpositions. In a constant tension between figuration and abstraction, Béchir Boussandel's work is part of an ongoing interrogation of the movement of beings on and through unstable territories.
